Presentation

In France, Mutualité Sociale Agricole (MSA) manages compulsory social welfare coverage for the whole of the agricultural sector, encompassing farmers, employers, employees, and their families, providing services to over 4 million people.

Members as focus of the activities

The MSA is its members’ one-stop shop for all social welfare protection, encompassing healthcare, the family, retirement and services. It relies on a concentrated territorial network which allows it to obtain the closest possible contact with its members at local level, and allows them to be offered responses suited to them, as well as quality service.

The MSA, which offers the first-largest professional social welfare protection system in France, provides services that are both local and consistent, factoring in the local context as well as national orientations. The MSA’s actions have proven its adaptability, and it has repeatedly demonstrated its expertise.

Playing a central role in rural territories, throughout its members’ lives

The MSA, which comes up with proposals for public authorities and is a force for innovation, also shows its ability to respond to the environment’s new requirements and the needs of those in the agricultural sector. With the benefit of all the values of a caring interprofessional mutual society, the MSA, which is run by representatives who are elected by its members, is an essential actor in the field of social welfare and its development.

Workplace accidents and preventive measures

The MSA offers the only social welfare protection system that manages occupational medicine and the prevention of occupational risks internally. Since the establishment of ATEXA in April 2002, it has provided coverage for workplace accidents and occupational illnesses, as well as workplace health and safety both for agricultural employees and for farmers.

An incarnation of all the values of a mutual society: caring for others, responsibility, and democracy

Its field knowledge and its professionalism in the area of prevention allow it to develop initiatives that are adapted to risks in the agricultural sector: use of phytosanitary equipment, prevention of muscular and skeletal disorders, etc.

Equal acces to healthcare

The MSA, which provides quality healthcare to its policyholders, has a strong commitment to a public health and prevention policy. It is determined to ensure equal access to healthcare for everyone living in rural areas.

It is developing experiments with co-ordinated healthcare networks (gerontology networks) and is undertaking prevention initiatives: preventative and dental care for children, check-ups, an anti-smoking campaign, cancer screening, and support for people excluded from the healthcare system, among other initiatives.

A commitment to families

The MSA promotes the pivotal role played by families in our society. Through the benefits it pays out, the helpers it offers, the proposals that it comes up with, and its initiatives out in the field working with families, it keeps up with changes in the agricultural sector in order to ensure better quality of life for all.

MSA’s support for young people, children and young adults is shown through initiatives intended to facilitate their integration into the workforce, as well as providing access to an independent lifestyle, and openness to other people.

Whether individually or in partnership, the MSA acts in a varied range of fields, including health, co-ordination in rural areas, providing access to leisure activities and culture, improving housing, occupational integration, etc.

Diversified social action

Through its public health and social actions, the MSA offers the advantage of allowing local populations to take control of their destinies and of enabling people experiencing difficulties to overcome trying times. It works with different age groups to initiate and develop activities and services. Through its helpers, it facilitates access to diverse services for the elderly and families (holiday’s vouchers, family helpers, childcare, etc.). The MSA devotes particular attention to frail people through a plan for assisting those subject to insecure circumstances.

Local partnerships for a large range of people-centred services
