The German legislature took steps for a modernisation of the social insurance in agriculture, which came into force on 1^st January 2008. The goals of this reform were primarily the progress of an efficient and economic administration, furthermore the use of existent, but unused synergies and finally, an economic reorganization of contributions. Therefore tasks have been centralized and assigned to the head association Spitzenverband der landwirtschaftlichen Sozialversicherung in order to decrease administrative costs.

As it has been underlined in a report of the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection, published at the end of August 2010, first effective results have been reached:

To be noted that especially the increase of efficiency and decrease of costs for benefits are milestones in this development. Nevertheless, some points regarding the staff reduction and the reorganisation of inner structures still have to be solved
